Sally shows why JOINING a group of like-minded people can help you make new friends.

If you can't find a pre-established group that directly appearsl to you, take matters into your own hands and start a group. Here are some examples (from The Art of Friendship: 70 Simple Rules for Making Meaningful Connections, by Sally Horchow & Roger Horchow):

Astronomy Group: Members bring thier own telescopes and stargaze

Investing Club: Members review investment planning strategies

Cooking Club (my personal group of choice!): Members plan themed menus and everyone contributes one homemade dish

Foreign-Language Table: Members meet to practice their French (or Spanish or Italian, etc.)

Gallery Group: Members visit art galleries and museums and discuss opinions over dinner

Patent-Pending Group: Members brainstor and build various inventions and showcase them to one another

Yoga or Pilates Group: Members pay a monthly fee for instructors to teach a class at one person's house

New Parents' Group: Members meet to discuss and share the challenges of having a new baby
